Type of Sports Bets Made in NFL Games

There are many different types of bets that people make in a sports bet for an NFL game. At AF Sports Picks, we've seen some of the most common types of bets include point spread bets, moneyline bets, and over/under bets.

Point Spread Bets

Point spread bets are bets in which the sportsbook sets a number of points that the favored team must win by in order for the bet to pay off. For example, if the New England Patriots are playing the New York Jets and the point spread is set at 6.5 points, the Patriots must win the game by 7 or more points in order for a bet on them to pay off. On the other hand, a bet on the Jets would pay off if they won the game or lost by 6 or fewer points.

Moneyline Bets

Moneyline bets are bets in which the bettor simply picks which team will win the game. The odds on a moneyline bet are set based on which team is favored to win, with the favored team having lower odds and the underdog having higher odds. For example, if the Patriots are favored to beat the Jets, a bet on the Patriots might have odds of -150, meaning that the bettor would have to bet $150 to win $100. On the other hand, a bet on the Jets might have odds of +120, meaning that a bet of $100 would pay out $120 if the Jets won the game.

Over/Under Bets

Over/under bets are bets in which the sportsbook sets a number for the total combined score of both teams in the game. The bettor then bets on whether the actual combined score will be over or under that number. For example, if the over/under is set at 45.5 points and the final score of the game is Patriots 24, Jets 21, the combined score of 45 would be under the over/under and a bet on the under would pay off.

There are many other types of bets that can be made on an NFL game, including prop bets, parlays, and teasers. These bets can involve specific events happening in the game, such as whether a certain player will score a touchdown or how many field goals will be made, and can offer the potential for larger payouts. However, they can also be more complex and risky than the basic types of bets discussed above. When you join AF Sports Picks, we help you with the strategy behind bets.
