Weekly Sports Report

The New York Yankees have been one of the most dominant teams in the first half of an MLB season in a long time. Their dominance has especially reigned over the American League so far as the Yankees have 53 wins compared to the next highest win total in the AL with just 45 from the Houston Astros. Over the past couple of years the Yankees have slowly been building a super team roster and it looks like this season it may actually pay off with a run to the World Series. The Yankees haven’t won a World Series since 2009, but this year it seems like their best shot in a while. On almost every major sportsbook the Yankees are the betting favorite at this point to take home the World Series trophy. The other favorite comes for the National League in the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won the trophy in 2020 and lost to the eventual champion Atlanta Braves in the League Championship Series last season.

The dominance for the Yankees starts with the power-hitter, Aaron Judge. Judge is having his best statistical season by far at this point in the season. He is leading the league in home runs with 28, as no one else has more than 22 on the year, and he is also hitting at a .294 batting average, which would be his best ever if the season ended right now by a significant margin. Another player who has elevated this Yankees team on the offensive side is Anthony Rizzo, who was acquired just last year from the Chicago Cubs. He has hit 19 home runs so far this year and adds even more power to this lineup. The list of talent in the batting lineup goes on for New York with Giancarlo Stanton finally healthy and playing well, Gleyber Torres playing like he did when he first came up to the Yankees, and Joey Gallo and Josh Donaldson waiting to break out for this team.

Hitting is what really differentiates this team from any other, but their pitching has been elite as well. Eight of their pitchers already have four wins or more on the season. Everyone has stepped up on this pitching staff, but Clay Holmes might be the best of them yet. During his relief duties he has 12 saves on the year with a ridiculous ERA of just 0.52 in 34.2 innings pitched. Pairing Holmes with arguably one of the best closers in MLB history in Aroldis Chapman has been a lethal combination that has been giving opponents nightmares. Chapman has 12 saves of his own on the year but has been injured since the end of May. Two of their starters that they have acquired over the last few seasons have been big as well as Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes both have ERAs under three in over 80 innings pitched. This pitching staff may be one of the most dominant in all of baseball just like their batting lineup.

While this team has been dominant in any scenario this season, at home they have been nearly unbeatable, winning 31 of their 40 games at Yankee Stadium. This team has also gotten even better as the year has gone on. After six losses in the three playing weeks of April, then nine in May, they have had  just five losses in all of June. This team can get really hot too as they have two streaks of winning nine games or more so far this season. Nothing is more dangerous than an already dominant team that can get extremely hot to a point where they are nearly unbeatable. This will be especially beneficial for them come playoff time.

This Yankees team currently has the most home runs in the MLB, the most runs, the second-most RBIs, and their pitching staff has the second-best ERA, least amount of runs given up, and the worst batting average against them in the league. If they can keep these numbers up and get hot like they have done multiple times already this year in the postseason, they could be on their way to another World Series title.

The New York Yankees have a stacked roster from top to bottom. It seems every year they are buyers at the trade deadline, and this year should be no different as they are off to their hottest start in a long time. This year should be World Series or bust for the Yankees. Look for them to add even more talent in all areas to this roster around the trade deadline to continue the dominance that they have enjoyed all year into the postseason.
Yankees yet again come back from behind yesterday against arguably the worst team in the league, Oakland Athletics.
Today they are up against their ace Frankie Montas.
We like this game to over the Total 8 today June 28 !
